Out
in the country, a stone's throw away from the cultural town of LIER and
close to the metropolitan city of ANTWERP, is where we find "The
Stekebees Estate". (named after the gooseberry, one of the many berries
found on the estate).
The
farmhouse is situated on the Van den Nest lane. Van den Nest was the
former name of the estate where you will meet the Gillis-Oomes family.
The
peace and quite of being surrounded by nature is attractive. Hiking
through the Kessel moor, going for bicycle rides on the friendly routes
and dikes or enjoying a boattrip on the river Nete. Some prefer fishing
in a nearby canal or pond while others enjoy a nice glass of wine or a
nap in the garden.
 For
the more active among us there are plenty of exciting sights to
discover. Your host has gathered all the necessary information and will
assist you in your search for these and other local activities.
Whether you're on a short vacation or just passing through, a bed and
breakfast is your best choice. Out in the country you will enjoy the
advantages of this region's hospitality and meet the people who live
here. This is the place to enjoy a real farmers breakfast, often with
homemade bread and day fresh eggs. The friendly atmosphere is a free
bonus.
Parking space is available and bicycles can be stored inside. The
common room with mezzanine is where breakfast is served. This is where
you will also find the billiard table, or where you can sit and read,
or get acquainted with your hosts and/or other guests. For your and our
health, the buildings are smoke free. Those who can't resist can
retreat to the garden and enjoy a healthy stroll.
Your
host's hobby since 1982 has been winemaking.
A large part of the garden
was transformed into a vineyard and orchard with various fruits and
berries. Julien will gladly give you a tour . This includes his wine cellar. A glass of wine is
offered on completion of the tour. A variety of Belgians fruit- and
grape wines of the estate may be tasted in the wine cellar..
Vine-culture is possible all over the world, in warm as well as in
colder wine countries. Some of the finest and most beautiful white
wines, however, are made in colder climates. This is where grapes take
the longest to achieve full ripeness. This is exactly what gives the
wine it's volume, aroma and flavor.

By train:
Lier
station is at 4 miles from “The Stekebees Estate” taxiservice can be
arranged.
By motorway:
Take
the E-313 exit 19 Massenhove, turn left direction Lier, then right to
Broechem.
Basics: (Biking
or hiking)
Keep a
good map handy and choose your route before setting of, or choose a
route planner on the Internet. (mappy.com) The "GR-route" runs through
our village.
For
those who plan a bike trip or walk, we are also right on the "Vier
kerkenpad"(Four-churches-route) and about 1.5 km (1 mile) from here you
will find the "Boomgaardpad"(Orchard route)
We are
on the "Pallieterlandroute" should you choose to visit the area by car.
To
emphasize the vacation atmosphere we also organize weekends with

single beds. Each room has TV, radio and brochures with regional info. Bed linen and towels are
